'Grate' Shrove Cheeseday Pancake Top Toppings

Shrove Tuesday on 1st March can’t come quickly enough for us as we’ve been working hard on a range of delicious pancake toppings to make your day even more memorable.

With a great mixture of sweet and savoury toppings, there’s something for everyone and each uses one of our delicious cheeses!

Just take a look at our list below and choose your favourites!

How to Make Pancakes for Shrove Cheeseday

Ingredients- Serves 4

  • 200g Plain flour
  • 2 Large Eggs, beaten
  • 500ml Milk
  • Oil, for frying
  • Good pinch of salt
  • Grated cheese of your choice
  • Whipped cream and syrup for sweet
  • Black pepper and sauce for savoury versions
Method
  • STEP 1

Using electric beaters or a hand whisk combine the flour, eggs and milk with a big pinch of salt in a large bowl. For the best results make up the batter the day before, cover and keep in the fridge whisk once more before using the mixture to make your pancakes.

  • STEP 2

Heat a shallow pan  (ideally 20cm) until it gets very hot, then pour a splash of oil into the pan. Rotate the pan so the oil covers the bottom of the pan. Pour 2 tablespoons of the pancake mixture into the pan and rotate until the mixture fills the pan evenly. Cook for 30 seconds, then flip and scatter with some of our suggested grated cheese toppings, and cook until the cheese is melting. You may need the grill on full power to flash the pancake under to finish melting the cheese.  Roll the pancakes and accessorise with your choice of sweet or savoury garnishes or sauces for Chilli Jam.
