Stilton Blue Cheese Zoom

Hartington Blue Stilton Cheese 150g Wedges

Gold Winner at the 2015 International Cheese Awards. This guest cheese is a creamy tangy artisan made Stilton from Hartington Creamery and is vac packed 150g (approx weight). Made in small batches in the historic village of Hartington, Derbyshire it is the only Stilton made in Derbyshire.

The history of Stilton can be traced back to the early 18th century and although it is clear that the recipe used has changed quite dramatically over the years it remains one of the world's best known and much loved cheeses. Quintessentially English, Stilton has its own Certification Trade Mark and is an EU Protected Food Name.

This means that:

- it can only be produced in the three Counties of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire
- it must be made from locally produced milk that has been pasteurised before use
- it can only be made in a cylindrical shape - it must be allowed to form its own coat or crust
- it must never be pressed and
- it must have the magical blue veins radiating from the centre of the cheese

    PDO for Stilton

Gold Winner at the 2015 International Cheese Awards. creamy tangy artisan made Stilton from Hartington Creamery is vac packed 150g (approx weight). See our recipe for double baked blue cheese souffle

The Hartington Creamery makes its award winning Stilton in the Parish of Hartington in barns which have been converted to a small scale cheese factory. Although Stilton had been made in the village since the 1870's No Stilton had been made since 2009 until a small team of artisan producers started the creamery and gained their PDO and the right to call their cheese Stilton.

    Did you know..
Blue Stilton's distinctive blue veins are created by piercing the crust of the cheese with stainless steel needles, allowing air into the core. The manufacturing and ripening process takes approximately nine to twelve weeks.

For cheese to use the name "Stilton", it must be made in one of the three counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire, and must use pasteurised local milk. The manufacturers of Stilton cheese in these counties applied for and received Protected Geographical Status (PDO) in 1996.

    1. Creany Blue Stilton Review by Nibbler

I am a long time lover of Stilton and tried a few great ones, alongside some dry not very pleasant ones. This Blue Stilton from Cheshire Cheese Company is creamy, tasty, moreish and tongue satisfying. Will buy it many times again. (Posted on 24/12/2016)

    2. Delicious beautiful flavour cheese Review by Cheeseaddict

Really enjoyed this delicious cheese. I put some over a salmon parcel in the oven and melted the stilton on it, delicious. A really good quality and enjoyable cheese. (Posted on 06/12/2016)
