A Legacy of Bold Flavours and Timeless Craft
This year marks a special milestone for the Cheshire Cheese Company as we proudly celebrate our 15th birthday. From our beginnings in 2010, we’ve been on a mission to create extraordinary cheeses that surprise, delight, and bring a bold twist to British cheese-making. Founded with a mission to bring innovative, quality cheese made with local cows' milk to Cheshire and beyond — a true farm-to-fork business!
But our story runs even deeper — Laurel's Farm, where we make all our cheese, nestled in the heart of Cheshire, has been crafting traditional Cheshire cheese since 1957. With over six decades of heritage behind us, innovation has always been balanced by a respect for the time-honoured methods that make great cheese truly special.
Less than a year after we launched, we celebrated our first big win — a Gold Award at the International Cheese & Dairy Awards for our Irish Whiskey & Stem Ginger Cheddar, now known as Shamrock, still a firm favourite in our range today. We’ve kept the momentum going ever since, including picking up two more Golds in 2024 for our Signature Traditional Cheshire, and our Special Aged Vintage Cheddar.
Over the following years, we quickly grew beyond our roots, expanding into new sectors and adding more exciting flavours to our range — from seasonal specials to future classics.
We grew into a brand loved across the UK and beyond. One of our most iconic moments came in 2016 when we collaborated with Swizzels, to launch a now-legendary Parma Violet Cheshire. Daring, unique, and impossible to forget, it became a talking point — and a firm favourite for those who crave the unexpected.
In 2017, we raised a glass to another invention: Gincello, a zesty, gin-and-lemon-infused cheese that pushed flavour boundaries and proved cheese can be as playful as it is delicious. It set the internet and countless international news outlets buzzing, being the first gin cheese, which is still a summer favourite today, with many comparing it to a lemon cheesecake.
Our growth didn’t slow there, we began tackling our first international orders, building our online presence, and keeping the cheese flowing through the challenges of the pandemic.
In 2021, we achieved another exciting milestone and teamed up with Jacobs for an exclusive collaboration that brought a perfect pairing of cheese and crackers. Using our Ploughman's cheese to flavour their classic Mini Cheddars, making the ultimate cheesy snack, perfect for nibbling when peckish or adding to a cheeseboard.
Our journey took an exciting turn in 2022 when we joined the Joseph Heler family, combining our innovation with their deep-rooted cheese-making expertise. This partnership marked a new chapter of growth, bringing new innovative flavours and, in 2023, a fresh new look for our brand.
Our rebrand was needed to reflect who we’ve become: modern, confident, and a little cheeky. While our visual identity evolved, our mission stayed the same — to bring bold British cheese to the world, without compromising on quality or creativity.
As we mark our 15th birthday, we want to thank everyone who’s been part of our journey. From loyal customers to curious newcomers, from sweet-toothed Parma Violet fans to classic cheddar purists — you’ve helped make the Cheshire Cheese Company what it is today.
Here’s to the next 15 years of innovation, indulgence, and incredible cheese.
