Savoury Cheese, Onion & Olive Scones

These savoury scones are the perfect bite-size treat for an afternoon tea with friends. Adding olives or nuts to this mix will elevate the delicious cheese in this recipe even further. They are so moreish your guests won’t be able to resist just one!

Method

Sift the flour and add the salt and pepper to a mixing bowl.

Rub in the butter with your fingers and add the olives and two-thirds of the cheese.

Whisk the egg and add gradually to the mix.

Add a little milk if required to make the dough nice and soft.

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead until smooth.

Roll out to around ¾ of an inch and use a small cutter to stamp out the scones.

Re-roll any trimmings.

Arrange on a lined baking sheet and brush with milk.

Cook in a pre heated oven at 200 C / Gas 6 for around 12-15 minutes or until golden.

Serve with cream cheese and onion or simply with some Cheshire butter.
